POWER6 Microarchitecture Detailed

IBM has published details on POWER6 microarchitecture in the IBM Journal of Research and Development. Design tradeoffs such as frequency vs out-of-order execution, the cache architecture, and more are described.

penguinppc.org is the home of the PowerPC GNU/Linux project, the native port of GNU/Linux to the PowerPC processor. The site is is run and maintained by volunteers from the community. PowerPC GNU/Linux runs natively on PCI-based Apple Power Macintosh, many IBM and Motorola PReP and CHRP workstations, IBM pSeries and iSeries servers, Amiga Power-UP systems, and many embedded platforms that utilize the Motorola/Freescale and IBM/AMCC embedded PowerPC processors. The kernel supports multiple processors (SMP), which works on some Power Macintosh models and IBM servers.
