IBM POWER6 This Week

After years of development, IBM will be announcing POWER6 this week. The dual-core dual-thread chip supports AltiVec and will run at 4-5GHz. It will be shipped in IBM servers and blades later this year.

PowerPC GNU/Linux runs natively on PCI-based Apple Power Macintosh, many IBM and Motorola PReP and CHRP workstations, IBM pSeries and iSeries servers, Amiga Power-UP systems, and many embedded platforms that utilize the Motorola/Freescale and IBM/AMCC embedded PowerPC processors. The kernel supports multiple processors (SMP), which works on some Power Macintosh models and IBM servers.
