PA Semi’s 1682M, a 13 watt (typical) 64-bit dual-core 2GHz PowerPC, is now sampling to customers, and PA Semi has announced a top list list of “alpha customers” including names like Themis, Mercury, and Curtiss-Wright Controls. PA Semi also announced availability of the Electra evaluation board, with Linux, VxWorks, and QNX Neutrino board support packages (BSPs). Electra uses CFE firmware, which is more typically found in MIPS systems. The 1682M will begin commercial production in the fourth quarter this year, about the same time as a single-core SoC will become available.
